Averatec
The latest entrant into the ultra small notebook computer arena is the Averatec 1100 Series. It’s a full featured notebook that weighs less than three and a half pounds, and has a smaller footprint than a piece of letter sized paper. The widescreen display is 10.1 inches, and contains Averatec’s AveraBrite LCD Technology for a brighter picture. In addition, it uses Intel’s Ultra Low Voltage Centrino Mobile chipset for up to 5 hours of extended battery life. This is mid-range in the industry, as some laptops from better-known manufacturers boast of life for up to 8 hours, and some other small laptops have far less. |

Although very small, this machine contains a lot of features that one would not ordinarily expect to find in a laptop of this scale. An 80 GB hard drive gives the user lots of space to hold their data, and the Intel Pentium M Processor running at 1.1 gigahertz has the power to run today’s most demanding applications. Also, the 1100 comes standard with 1 gigabyte of RAM, and is upgradeable to 2 gigabytes. The graphics adapter is also high quality, with an Intel Extreme Graphics 2 adapter with up to 128 megabytes of shared memory.
There are a lot of peripherals in this Averatec laptop as well, including a dual layer DVD burner, an 802.11 b/g wireless network adapter, and a PC Card expansion slot. It also has a 4-in-1 media card reader, which will read memory sticks, memory stick pros, multimedia cards, and secure digital cards. This is really handy if you have a digital camera or other gadget such as a Sony Playstation Portable that reads media cards, since you can just insert the card into the reader for instant access to your data. To find this Averatec notebook, one need only look to the closest electronics or computer retail chain, as the company has many partners in the industry like Best Buy, Circuit City, and others. Or, an 1100 could be ordered online at the manufacturer’s website, which is also the place to go in order to find Averatec laptop parts such as batteries. |
