Gateway MX6453
As Gateway laptops have traditionally struggled to compete with those of more widely known brands such as Dell and Compaq, the MX6453 is a surprisingly robust and powerful model. It contains all of the latest advances in mobile technology, and has the power to handle even the toughest of applications with ease. With an AMD Turion 64 Dual Core processor, the MX6453 packs a lot of power into its small frame. Thanks to AMD’s new power saving technology, it’s now possible to put high performance chipsets into dense laptop settings because the heat factor has been reduced significantly. By only sending power to the gates in the processor that are currently being used, instead of to the entire mechanism as was done in the past, the internal temperature has been reduced to a more manageable level. And this has the added benefit of preserving battery life as well. |

The MX6453 comes standard with a gigabyte of DDR2 RAM, which is a good amount to run modern applications and operating systems such as Windows Vista. And at a speed of 533 megahertz, data transfer can keep up with the processor to avoid any bottlenecks.
The display is impressive as well, with a 15.4 inch WXGA Ultrabright active matrix LCD panel. This is typical for a laptop in this price range, and users these days expect no less, unless they are going for an ultralight or handheld laptop, which this model clearly is not. At 160 gigabytes, the hard drive is above average for a laptop and is able to hold a wealth of information, even with Windows Vista taking up 12 gigabytes of it. And the speed of 5400 RPMs is about average in the industry. One advancement that you don’t see that much in laptops as of yet is a multi-format double layer DVD burner, which comes standard in the Gateway MX6453. In addition, the integrated wireless network adapter supports the 802.11 b/g protocol, but doesn’t have support for the draft-n specification as of yet. In a nutshell, the MX6453 is a top of the line notebook computer that is missing just a few of the modern advances in technology, but makes up for this in other ways. A user buying this machine would not have to worry about technology passing this one by in a year, as it will have enough power to run applications for years to come. |
