Long a maker of quality desktop PCs, Gateway also makes a wide variety of laptops as well. From inexpensive bare bones laptops valued in the hundreds of dollars to souped-up screamers that cost thousands, Gateway has laptops for all mobile computing needs.

The NX570 Series is the cheapest model of Gateway laptop computers, with a choice of processors: users can choose from between the Celeron M, the Dual-Core Mobile, or the advanced Core 2 Duo. In addition installed RAM ranges from ½ to 1 GB, for adequate memory, although some of today’s advanced applications and operating systems may need more than that. And the 60 to 80 GB hard drive is enough for most of today’s computing needs. In all, this machine is best for the person who needs a portable computer for basic computing needs, but isn’t going to tax it with advanced games and programming applications.

The NX270S combines affordability with portability, in that it is slim and light, but doesn’t cost a fortune. It’s small stature and 14” screen ensure that the buyer won’t get a hernia lugging it around, and like the NX570, is has an adequate amount of computing power for the basic computer user.

Moving further up in price, the NX860 has a large, 17” screen for better multimedia presentation, and has more power than its lower-priced cousins, with a choice between two different dual-core processors from Intel. It also comes with an option for 2 GB of memory, to allow for more advanced applications.

The CX270 is Gateway’s foray into the tablet PC market, with a 14” display that swivels around and mounts on top of the keyboard. It has a touch screen and stylus, to allow the user to write directly on the screen itself, taking the place of the keyboard and mouse.

And rounding out Gateway’s notebook computers is the thinnest and lightest notebook made by the manufacturer, the NX100X. It only has a 12” screen, and comes in a Magnesium case for greater lightness. And in keeping with the portability theme, it runs on an Intel Core Solo processor, which is designed to give the user enough computing speed while reducing the amount of power it uses, making for a longer lasting battery for this Gateway laptop.
